Top tips for Launching into new markets

For some agencies and consultancies, the change in consumer/customer behaviour, due to the pandemic, offers opportunities to expand into new markets. But it’s not just as easy as setting up a desk in your city of choice. You will need to invest time, money and recruit the right expertise to stand any chance of achieving your business aspirations.

Having successfully built new relationships with global brands all around the world, I hope my insights may be helpful and set you ahead of the competition.

Here are my top 10 tips:

1. Understand consumer/customer behaviour and what challenges your service or product will overcome for your prospects– what is your value?

2. Conduct a detailed competitor review. It is key to understand how to position your brand / services in the market place. You need to make it as easy as possible for prospects to buy

3. Showcase your proven expertise through case studies & testimonials that will demonstrate how you helped overcome the challenge and delivered tangible ROI

4. Identify current clients or partners that have operations in the new region. These should be your warm leads and may even help you with the set-up of your business

5. Look to build partnerships on the ground with companies that offer complimentary services

6. Make sure you implement a marketing content plan relevant for the targeted market, incorporating their HOT topics. Make sure your website, LI and credentials reflects your brand positioning and proposition

7. Infiltrate the appropriate networks, identify the thought leaders and follow and comment on them. This will increase both your profile and your understanding of the issues

8. Talk to your own network about building the required capability. Ask them about their experiences and insights

9. Join relevant associations and industry bodies to raise profile and identify possible prospects

10. Make sure you understand your legal obligations and that you are operationally and legally set up for success

This is in no way an exhaustive list. What would you add?
