Listen to your nearest and dearest

Wise words from my nearest and dearest.

I’ve been reflecting on what I’ve learnt so far from starting up Join up the Dots - Consultancy.

Firstly, how amazing my LinkedIn community is. I was blown away by the positive messages of support. You liked the website and the proposition, which reassured me that I’m meeting with current needs.

People were fascinated with my testimonials, wanting to know more about me and more importantly what other people’s experiences were of me. This is a valuable lesson reminding me that I am the brand, and that is what people buy into. By trusting myself, and living by my values I will attract the right clients for me.

The second lesson is to listen to your nearest and dearest.

I was Face-timing my younger sister who lives in Sydney, at the weekend. In true sister style she was so supportive but also happy to pull me up on where I got it wrong! Her observation also related to my testimonials but her biggest question was, where are the women’s voices?!

Ouch she’s hit me right in the heart. This was a big omission and one that is hard to admit to.

Whilst the majority of my bosses in my career have been men, I have worked alongside many amazing women. Many whom have been role models for me over the last decade and who I now call close friends.

So, my commitment is to not only add women’s voices to my website, but to focus on amplifying women’s contributions, capabilities and friendship in the future.

Thanks sis, for your wise words! X
